Sisters Already
I never had a sister... but I hear they share clothes. Or fight over clothes. And these two are doing it already.
Bethelle found some skirts I had purchased for Curie and promptly put one on. They are her new favorite clothing item. You can't go wrong when sparkles and ruffles are involved.
I'm ashamed to say how well they fit Bethelle. The skirts are 9 month size. Somebody get this girl a milkshake or two.Thursday, February 11, 2010
Cooking with Preschoolers
Bethelle and I made these great PUMPKIN COOKIES. They were perfect for her to help.
These are great for making with kids because: 1) Sooooo simple. Just a couple ingredients. This suits a short attention span.
2) No eggs. Lick the bowl without guilt or worry.
3) No perfection required. Dump and mix.
4) They're cookies!
Mix together: one box of spice cake mix, one can of pumpkin (15 oz), one cup chocolate chips. I also chose to add 1/2 tsp of pumpkin pie spice. Scoop this out on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes. Let them cool on the pan for a few minutes, and then on a cooling rack.

TEETH!
... or I really should say "tooth!"
We've also just recently weened. Sad. This was a forced weening, as Curie would starve otherwise. Her cutting of a tooth is a silver lining on this cloud.
Princess "Art"
I mentioned in the last post that Bethelle loves projects. She generally goes to her art cabinet before she considers toys. From there, she often chooses her "Princess Art"... which really isn't art at all. I just put it there, because I think it belongs with coloring books.
I love that she thinks this is as fun as Play-Doh. She is really getting good at it and is quite independent.Decorating My, I Mean, Her Dollhouse, part 1
Remember the dollhouse Bethelle (and Curie, technically) received for Christmas? I am in decorating mode and loving it. First, we did the roof:
We're doing a pink theme, so we started with 12" x 12" glitter scrapbook cardstock. It's a great time of year to find all things pink in craft stores, so we were in luck. I also considered sand paper, but some of it is so thin, I would have had to glue it to cardstock first for the look I wanted, plus I really wanted pink or white.
I then drew the following on the back:
Bethelle did a great job cutting all the strips... 4 sheets of them! I cut the short lines out in little wedges:
To make the cuts show, I used a light pink paint pen along the edges. It then took an entire tube of "everything glue" to do the two sides of the roof.
I love how it turned out!
Bethelle loves projects. She gets it from me.
Church Ball
If you're LDS, you know exactly what I'm talking about.
Our ward (congregation) has formed a little team and is competing against the other wards in the area. Nick is the coach (this seems to translate to: "Nick is the guys who sends out the emails," but I could be wrong), and they had their first game last night.
Nick's team dominated the first 4/5 of the game, but they only had 5 guys on the team, and the other team had 7, so Nick's little group got tired and the Carnation team past them up for the first time in the whole game right at the buzzer.Nick hit 7 three-point shots, including one from about 6 feet behind the three-point line. Good work!
The kids and I were the only spectators in the place. Bethelle wore her cheerleading costume.
