Fun with Gumpaste

Mom was in charge of Blair's wedding cake. Her sister, Karen, is a retired cake decorator, so she was going to build and frost the cake. The bride wanted a sunflower theme, so Mom was going to stick in silk sunflowers. I refused, which meant that I was now in charge of the flowers. I googled, and here is what I came up with...

We bought gumpaste and dyed it with frosting gel coloring. Then we rolled it out to 1/8th inch.
The flower punch that we purchased punches like a cookie cutter, then you plunge the top up and down a few times to get the detail on the surface.
We found Mom's sundae cups to be the perfect shape on the bottom for drying the flowers. Good thing she had so many!
Here is the final cake. Pretty, no?

Blair and Holly. Ahhhh.....
